The first records of sandals took place in Ancient Egypt, around 4000 BC. - They were made of different materials, but the main one was papyrus and palm leaf. In other regions of Africa, such as the Masai, made by animal leather.
In the Asian region, several societies from each country brought their models and materials. In China and Japan, slippers were made from rice straw. In India, there was a predominance of slippers made of wood and there was a button that held the strap between the first two toes. Other places that featured the slipper as part of the clothing were Rome and Greece, in Europe.
However, the slipper as a fashion item and as part of global culture had its history after World War II, when a Japanese slipper model Zōri arrived in the United States with the soldiers. Shoes come in a variety of fabrics, but the most popular is straw with strips of cloth. Its format later inspired the creation of a great Brazilian brand: Havaianas!
In 1962, Havaianas/Alpargatas was born. The traditional one was the first model created, it is made of rubber, white and with blue strips. Until then, it was just this model, but in 1969, due to a machine error, the white version with green strips appeared. As of 1995, Havaianas began to use prints and a wide variety of colors.
Outside the company, new ways of using flip-flops have emerged. Now, craftsmanship is present in the sandals - stones, sparkles, etc. The customization is endless. In this world, Citrus is born, a Brazilian company that sells customized Havaianas models in the United States. Bringing comfort, style, joy and Brazilianness, Citrus intends to innovate every year in its creations!
